Functionality vs. aesthetic in pots & pans [Market Research]

SECTORS:
Quali- quantitative market- and user research, trend research

YEAR: 2011

PROJECT:
Individual project, Master in Business Design, Domus Academy

Do consumers value aesthetics or functionality more, when choosing a pot or a pan?
I carried out a trend and market quanti- and qualitative research out in the framework of Macef home decor exhibition in Milan (2012).
By combining a desk research about the pots and pans market offer and a field research collecting consumers’ insights through surveys and short interviews, some relevant correlations were found, suggesting that women and people that rent a house are more inclined to prefer functional objects, while there is a preference for the aesthetic aspect in the 35+ population.
